The box office was located not at the theatre itself, but on Nevsky Prospect. Although the prices were reasonable, Kommissarzhevskaya's theatre did not draw an even cross-section of the population. Blok's aunt recalls, for instance, that the packed house at the premiere of The Puppet Show was made up of the intelligentsia, the educated elite. The working classes, however, were more likely to attend such theatres as the “Nevsky Farce,” which produced comedies and vaudevilles, or the “Apollo,” which advertised masquerades on Saturdays, lasting until 4am.
